What does MetGIS stand for?
"Met" stands for meteorology and "GIS" is the acronym for geographic information systems. The link between these two makes MetGIS weather forecasts so accurate. Weather data are combined with detailed terrain data. This improves our forecasts enormously, especially in difficult terrain.
How did MetGIS arise?
It all began as a university-based research project. 10 years later experts from Europe, Russia, South America and Japan had developed the MetGIS algorithms. Several verification studies displayed a baffling accuracy. When more and more customers started knocking on the door MetGIS was founded.

How can we reach you?
The MetGIS team can be reached on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CET on +43 1 890 90 32. Conversations outside of these times, video conferences or personal meetings in our office in Vienna are also possible, as long as you let us know in good time.
What weather parameters are available?
We offer a large number of standard parameters and also numerous special parameters for specific industries (e.g. wet-bulb temperature, global radiation). A list of currently available parameters can be found here.
Can I test your weather data in advance?
Of course. You are welcome to test our weather API without obligation and convince yourself of the simple integration and reliability of our weather data. To get a Developer API Key, please check this information or contact us.
What is an API call?
An API call is a data retrieval from our API. This is done by an https request. The MetGIS servers then return a JSON file. To make data integration as easy as possible for you, our JSON files contain all weather data for one or more locations. Separate queries for different time periods or parameters are not necessary.
UTC and time zones: how does it work?
Extremely easy with the MetGIS Point API: While time specifications usually have to be converted from UTC to local time (including daylight savings time), we do this automatically. All time specifications in the JSON files refer to the local time of the location for which the weather data has been requested and transmitted.
What forecast periods do you offer?
We create forecasts for the next ten days, or more if you wish. We are aware that there are providers who cover 14 days, 20 days or even longer forecast periods. According to the latest research and technology, however, such long-term forecasts make little sense, since they often do more harm than good due to their unreliability.

What is your weather data based on?
MetGIS has developed its own, verified weather algorithms and modeling approaches. These combine precise terrain data with millions of measurement data from ground-based weather stations, radar, satellites, weather balloons, weather buoys and aircraft. The output are ultra-precise weather analyzes and forecasts.

Do you also provide weather icons?
Weather symbols are used to graphically describe the weather as a combination of snowfall, rain, clouds, sun, etc. We are happy to provide paying customers with one of our weather icon datasets at no additional cost, if required.
How do I keep control over my API access?
With our API Monitoring Tool, accessible with your customer login, you can see your packages and statistics at a glance. You will also receive email alerts well before you have used up your ordered API calls.
How do I receive a customer account and what do I get out of it?
You set up a customer account when you order a free API key for developers, or when you make your first purchase in the web shop. Your customer account simplifies subsequent purchases, helps you manage your orders, allows you to reset your password and view access statistics.
Am I allowed to cache the weather data?
Data caching is only permitted in certain data packages, and then only with the explicit consent of MetGIS. If data caching is unavoidable for your planned application, please contact us - together we will find a solution.
