Ski Resorts (Austria)
MetGIS has been applied by Austrian ski resorts for various purposes. The classic variant is the reception of operational high-resolution weather forecasts, tailor-made for the resort, including point forecasts for a number of key locations of the ski area (top stations of cable cars, mountain tops, etc.). See the left-hand map, related to the ski area of Schladming.
The other application among ski resorts is the use of high-resolution MetGIS climate charts for strategic planning of the production of artificial snow. Such maps provide high-resolution information about the number of days, during which artificial snow can be produced at a certain altitude in a specific month of the year. Graphs such as the right-hand map for the Zell am See/Kitzsteinhorn region have been produced.
